Wanderer Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) - Horsnell Gully, South Australia by

These beautiful migratory butterflies have been calling Australia home since European settlers introduced their larval host plant, the milkweed family. They are popular among South Australian gardens, as they splash their bold orange colours around as they feed on a wide variety of blooming flowers. Their wingspan is typically 9-10cm.

Conservation and creativity are our two strongest passions. Our nature photography extends into online video at NatureScope . We’re also currently producing a documentary film called Cuttlefish Country . All purchases of our work will go directly towards the film’s production. The film is due for release in 2013.

    Stunning image

  • Thanks Bobby, I only had time for one frame in this instance… glad you enjoyed it! There were a lot of butterflies about on my hike that December day. I actually saw 6 species of butterflies along just 500 metres of trail!
