Shiny New Love

Crisp linen sheets to slide between in nakedness
Cool morning air seeping through the window
Sun-dappled fields shimmering in autumn hues
The thick aroma of coffee stirring life into the early hours
A dimpled cheek betraying a seductive thought
Nature’s aroma thick in the air before the first raindrop
Childrens’ laughter carried on the Sunday breeze
The dulcet tones of a soulful singer played on vinyl

All of these things stir me to life
Painting colour into a world gone grey
But none compare to the intoxicating surrender
Of new love

Fingers intertwined are somehow more whole
Two pieces of a puzzle that are perfectly matched
That first tender kiss when bodies are yet unfamiliar
Hesitant, consuming, longing

I will lock away a piece of this shiny new love
Hide it in a tinderbox stored where fond memories go
Ten years from now when the lustre has faded
It will sparkled in my depths

I pray this glow will last forever
Hearts consumed by the complete joy of the other
Enchanted simply by your presence
But should it fade
You will always hold the key to my tinderbox
A gentle caress, a tenderly whispered word
And I will be yours once more
Your shiny new love

Treasure the joyful memories of new love for they will be your saviour when the path becomes obstructed by the vines of time creeping at your ankles.

Great piece Danika! Didn’t know you wrote (or its the first piece I’ve looked at yours :-o ! )

  • Thanks Will. I have an abundance of creativity and a very whimsical attention span so I tend to dabble in a little of everything creative and arty :) Glad you liked it!
