As most of you know, my image “Road To Regret” is a finalist for the Practically Black section of this year’s Canon Photo5 Competition (winners will be announced on Monday, 23rd November). Each judge has now given their reasons for choosing their top 10 finalist images and I just wanted to share Jackie Ranken’s (judge and pro photographer) critique on my entry…
“Road to Regret, by Danika.
I don’t need a title to read this shot. It’s a gritty, incongruous portrait of a woman in the gutter with a bottle of spirits.
It’s the incongruity that intrigues me. It seems like a strange place for this woman to be. Her skin is glowing and bronzed, her dress and shoes are classy, but her body language communicates a different story. I love not being able to see her face, She could be the face of all of us.Perfect exposure and lighting for the subject and subject matter.”
So proud! :)

Wow thats awesome. Well said by Jackie indeed. She knows her stuff!
DanikaL:
Funny thing is that I choose that particular image from the set because I felt it was “grittier” than the others, so when she used the exact same word in her critique I had a little smile to myself :)
