This is my Holiday card for 2008. It is an original linoleum print. I had been working on another design for some time but I could not get the verse right. It also became clear that it was becoming less about a positive message of hope and gratitude and more about my wit and cleverness. And, because of the difficult financial environment right now I felt that wry wit and sarcasm were not in order. So, I decided to do something more simple and sublime which I prefer anyway.
I might add, I have gone through exactly the same process you talk about about with being able to handle satire recently (and I have been a satirist). I think of Neil Young’s “since I have changed, I can’t take nothing hard”.
