SandBlast Art Festival 08' by daniel cautrell

Posted on July 14, 2008

So, I have been helping to organize this little art festival on the small town of Duvall, Washington for over eight years. I got involved with it one year when they did not have enough volunteers to organize it and were considering not having it at all. It is the coolest little festival with continuous live music, art booths and local food and it is located in a little grassy park on the shore of the Snoqualmie River. They also have sand sculpture exhibition and community event which is actually how the event got started. The year that I started helping out I had received a grant to do a public art installation along the river. I had stated in the grant that I would be doing the installation during the Festival which would increase the potential audience. Imagine my concern when I heard that there may not be a Festival. I help organize the artists and design the t-shirt/poster image. I spend the weekend listening to music, talking to local and visiting art patrons, jump in the river from time to time and hang around for the bonfire on the beach Saturday night. After all these years It has always been a good time. Every artist should be willing to take their work to the people and personally interact with potential supporters. If you are a part of a community you must uphold your importance to that community.
