Members of the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion-18 delay party salute as their comrades prepare to fly away to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The delay party formed a working party to load out all the battalion’s gear and wrapped up mobilization activities in CBC Gulfport, MS and joined the Main Body in Iraq a week later.

I could be wrong, Mike, but I would swear that I saw your photo voted on more than 3 times in the Military Movers contest. I know I voted for it. It may not be a military aircraft, but it is a contract aircraft and your photo is a one of a kind. Good job.

  • R. Mike "Jake"... replied

Thanks for your comment and your vote. I really debated entering it since it wasn’t a mililtary aircraft. But it, and a second contract aircraft for the delay party, did move our entire battalion to Kuwait where the C-130’s took over for the last leg into Iraq. So… in a very real sense it was a “military mover”.

    Awesome shot…

  • R. Mike "Jake"... replied

Thanks for your comment, Anna. It was a rainy, drizzly day and that was fitting for the emotions we felt as our brothers and sisters flew off to war.
