I draw open the curtains
The sun’s rays spear into my room
I glance out into the day
It’s crisp, but tranquil
A fresh blanket of snow
Masks all the actions of the day gone past
Children leaving new tracks on their way to school
Revealing their point of origin,
Interact happily, enjoying winter’s gift
That covers the ground around them
It makes me smile
I look forward to the day ahead
But that’s for later
I slip back into bed
It’s still warm from last night’s sleep
I pull the blankets around me
I lie there listening to the kids play
You don’t always have to rush out
To enjoy a beautiful day.
