Wow, where’s the Whirlpool, the dryer and the Sunbeam iron !!! LOL.

The laundry at the fabulous House of Monte Cristo, Junee NSW, Australia. So used to the mod cons of today I cannot imagine what is was like for women of this time on laundry days.

Imagine using that huge mangle! You would certainly have been fit in those days! :) x

  • Thanks Carol, it sure makes one thankful for some technology of today, some others I can do without but not the washing machine!!

This was worth rushing back to on Sunday Di … perfect in all ways. I agree about the old laundry days … as my mum used to relay to me, it was up about 5 to light the copper, then boil everything, then try to remove the clothes without scalding yourself, then bleach and starch the whites, peg it all out on the line that often fell in the dirt … the ironing then was another huge task of damping all the starched gear down before you ironed it with one of those ancient old irons. The whites were always covered with another cloth so the iron didn’t mark them … oh the horrors! But looking at your image, all this is fades into oblivion … you have captured something special Di … a wonderful nostalgic and historic record♥

  • Thanks Bev for such a great comment and a trip down memory lane, I remember my Mum using a copper and the hand wringer, I can still see it all!!

I like how you’ve processed this one Di… the white outfit must have been moved by someone (or not…) as it was more straight on when I photographed it and it’s totally blown out :(

  • It is quite bright but I used a little dodge and burn, thanks Rosie
