Cross of the Crusades by

This Crusader Cross stood out as the only example of its type at St Catherine’s Monestary, Mt Sinai, Egypt. The Monestary is famous for being the site of the Burning Bush and the nearby peak of Mt Sinai, where Moses reputedly received the 10 Commandments from God.

Interestingly, there is no historical record of the Monestary having been a part of any Crusade (it was too far south) and no one at St Catherine’s could shed any light. I could only conclude that the cross was brought to Mt Sinai by someone at some stage and left at the Monestary.

Any alternative explanations welcome!
