Deadvlei, Namib Desert, Namibia by

These trees died more than one thousand years ago when the flood waters of the Namib Desert were cut off by the growing sand dune in the background. Today they are nothing more than carbon remains and are incredibly hard to the touch, following a millenium of exposure to the sun in one of the driest places on earth.
