I am a contemporary UK artist and illustrator, born in Cambridge, England in 1979.

I studied illustration at the University of Sunderland, attaining my Masters degree with distinction in 2003. Since then I have continued to exhibit my art works, and also to take commissions as a freelance illustrator.

I am passionately interested in the changing emotions and ages of the human face, so portraiture has always been a central focus in my work. Expressive brushstrokes and sensitivity to the subtle effects of light characterise my paintings which are executed in a variety of media – oil, acrylic and watercolour.

I have been influenced by the styles of John Singer Sargent, Velasquez and Rembrandt, as well as by illustrators such as Norman Rockwell. This has inspired me to underpin my work with the fundamentals of strong draughtsmanship and bold design.

My trips to Europe and the Far East have added new and rich dimensions to my chosen subject matter. I intends to further my research into Chinese art and calligraphy, and to incorporate this understated delicacy and simplicity into my paintings.

My latest venture in the UK is the design and illustration of a new children’s book series called ‘Spelling Magic’. I have also contributed illustratively to the ‘The Justice of the Peace’ journal and to the ‘Captain Recycle’ environmental campaign.
