Monster ABC - What letter next? by Damien Mason

Posted on September 22, 2009

Okay, so I’ve kicked off this project, and in the interests of involving the people around me I’ve decided to get some involvement from you, my loving followers and vaguely interested onlookers.

Basically I’m after a vote – I’ve done “B”, so what letter should I do for my next monster? Drop your answers in the comments :)

  • Paul McClintock

    Paul McClintock

    M for Minotaur!

  • Damien Mason:

Under M I also had Manticore and Mermaid

  • Paul McClintock

    Paul McClintock

Oh Manticore is better than Minotaur!

  • Paul McClintock

    Paul McClintock

    E for Esquilax!

I think it’s a mythical creature that only exists on the simpsons… it’s a rabbit with the body of a rabbit and the head… of a rabbit.

Or maybe it was a horse… I forget.

  • Cathie Tranent

    Cathie Tranent

C – is for centaur, Cerberus. calopus, Caladrius, and my new favourite …. Catoblepas

PS. C is also for Cathie …. but I’m not a monster!!

  • Damien Mason:

Fantastic suggestions.. I also have Chimera, Cockatrice and of course the Cyclops as possibles for C

  • Simon Sherry

    Simon Sherry

    M for Manticore = win!

G for Gorgon or Golem, and Y for Yara-ma-yha-who

  • Damien Mason:

Oh, Golem, now that would be a lot of fun. I also had Griffon, Goblin and Gnome, but a Golem is sorely tempting. I had considered a Yeti for Y, but how cool is Yara-ma-yha-who? He eats people and then regurgitates them a little bit shorter!

  • Simon Sherry

    Simon Sherry

Indeed – he’s go to be one of the most bizarre critters I’ve ever heard of. BTW, I found him here – a veritable cornucopia of critters!

    Simon Sherry

Speaking of that list – L is for Lubber Fiend!

  • Damien Mason:

Heh, Lamia and Leprechaun were other L options

  • Nick Ford

    Nick Ford

I would definitely like to see the Chimera as ‘C’! Wicked beast! ….. but i’d like to see the ‘M’ for Manticore next also!!!!!!!!!

  • Damien Mason:

Yeah, a Manticore is a pretty good one.. it’s got weird requirements but plenty of room for me to play around.

  • Kristin Baylis

    Kristin Baylis

do monsters have to be horrible? or can they also portray other freaks of natures such as P for Pegasus – or D for Dracula, F for Frankenstein!! hehe you would do an excellent Frankenstein

  • Damien Mason:

They can be whatever I want ;) I’d like to have a few nice monsters.. and let’s not forget the incredible cute Nurikabe

  • Cheryl Mason

    Cheryl Mason

Yeah, the manticore looks like it would be pretty cool to draw, so i vote for that too :)

  • Rustyoldtown

    Rustyoldtown

D for dragon, you can’t have a children’s monster book without a dragon!

  • Damien Mason:

Yeah, I did like the idea of a Dryad but maybe I’ll do an Oread or Naiad instead and then I can do a Dragon :)

  • Paul McClintock

    Paul McClintock

    C for Cthulhu!

  • Damien Mason:

F for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? ;)

  • Paul McClintock

    Paul McClintock

Narwhals aren’t mythical… but they may as well be. Maybe save that for another book with real animals that are weird enough to be mythical.

  • Damien Mason:

    T is for Tapir

  • David Cumming

    David Cumming

    N for Nessie

  • David Cumming

    David Cumming

    Here’s a suggestion for W

    Wulver
