There are host vacancies now in the Short Stories Group and BloodRed the Vampire Group, but if you’re interested, you’ll need to contact the remaining hosts, not me.

Welcome to Checkmate.

This is a Chess themed writing competition. Interpret the pieces AND/OR the game of Chess any way, any genre you want. The pieces are the King, Queen, Rook/castle, Knight, Bishop and Pawn.
For example, a story based on the word Queen (etc) is welcome, as is one using chess themes in general.

First Prize : US$30 Bubble voucher
Runner up prize: A copy of the Gaia publication.

Closes : Midnight (your time), Saturday 14th September 2008

We’re launching another brief short story competition where the aim is to write a story inspired by David Malcolmson’s Hail, Fellow

You have until midnight April 21, 2008 (that’s one week from today).
Word count: between 150 and 1000 words.

“Remember thinking that’s a cool legendary beast/mythological being and wanting to feature them in a story? Well, we’re collecting an entire alphabet of creatures, a Bubble Bestiary. Link your stories to this post and 26 letters from now we can look at producing a downloadable PDF, all rights remaining with contributors.”
