50 things about me... following JC and Paul!
50 things about me…for fun. So following the journals by JC Montgomery and Paul Rees-Jones, I couldn’t resist having a crack at it as well, and neither could Miri, Anne, Alix, Zolton, Gayla, Cathie, darkestartist, hahpistuff
1. Do you like blue cheese?
I’ve tried it at least, but I wouldn’t run out and buy it.
2. Have you ever smoked a cigarette?
Twice, so yes. But they were just excuses to go and talk to girls :)
3. Do you own a gun?
No, but I grew up on a farm where guns were just another tool, so weren’t glamourised or romanticised, and we were trained in safety with the threat of never touching one again if we broke dad’s rules. The rules included toy guns.
4. What flavor do you add to your drink at Sonic?
So Sonic is a junk food chain? Never heard of the place personally.
5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?
Depends why I’m there. Not if it’s for things like stitches, broken bones, dislocations, or vaccinations. Skin cancer checks make me concerned though. Too many people, young and old, die in Australia from it.
6. Do you like hot-dogs?
Sorta. The last one I had was rubbish though.
7. Favorite Christmas Song?
Bah humbug.
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
A double flat white.
9. Can you do push-ups?
Yup. Not as many as I used to be able to do when properly fit though.
10. What’s your favorite meal?
Mmmm, pig on the spit! Drooling…
Pork is the stumbling block in anyones way to converting me to vegetarianism. I couldn’t do it. Nope, no way.
11. What’s your favorite piece of jewelry?
My watch.
12. Favorite hobby?
Used to be martial arts, but that died so that I might complete my postgrad study. I’m also a reformed computer game addict, and don’t do that anymore (but I wish I was!). I love the cinema, but only get to go a couple of times a year now. I used to read all the time, but my urge has decreased since I started writing. So I guess writing and photography are my current drives.
13. Do you work with people who idolize you?
Hardly. But who works with those sort of people? Unless you’re a movie star?
14. Name a trait that you hate about yourself?
Pouring all I’ve got into my current obsession, and then waking up one day and walking away from it never to look at it again (because there’s this new obsession, and it’s sooo much more interesting…)
16. Middle name?
John
17. Name 3 thoughts at this moment:
50 questions actually takes longer to answer than it looks…
I should be finishing some writing…
Hmm, I feel like playing with my camera…
18. Name 3 things you bought yesterday:
A PhotoShop magazine.
Realms of Fantasy magazine, August 2008 (it’s got some cool stories, anyone read it?)
An asthma puffer :(
19. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink.
Mainly water. Start the day with a nice coffee. Occassional fruit juice. Although wine is probably more common than juice really.
20. Current worry right now?
That if I quit work the bills won’t get paid while I change careers.
21. Current hate right now?
The way the media works, at all levels, to inspire a culture of fear in the masses.
22. Favorite place to be?
The Gold or Sunshine coast hinterlands (not the coastal cities). But Byron Bay is nice. So’s Fraser Island. But I’m also happy sitting right here with my camera next to me and my bookshelves surrounding me.
23. How did you bring in New Years?
I don’t believe I did.
24. Favorite place to go?
Japan.
25. What is your most recurring dream?
Depends on how I’m feeling.
I have dreams of water, where I’m on top and any and all types of creatures writhe and squirm below the surface. When I’m stressed they break the surface.
Then there’s the zombies. Desperately trying to make me one of them. Just a fear of being like everyone else I think.
26. Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert, but I talk a lot apparently.
27. What color shirt are you wearing?
Grey.
28. Do you like sleeping on satin sheets?
I’m not sure.
29. Can you whistle?
Yep.
30. Favorite color(s)?
Blue, black, grey.
31. Would you be a pirate?
In some ways yes, but the reality of life on an old tall ship surrounded by people you couldn’t trust isn’t my idea of a good time.
32. What songs do you sing in the shower?
No, not me.
33. Favorite girl’s name?
Gwenevere (I know, the spelling’s not the old way)
34. Favorite boy’s name?
That’s hard. Anything that breaks away from using names from the ‘traditional’ western source of names.
35. What’s in your pocket right now?
Ah, that’s where I left my USB key!
36. Last thing that made you laugh?
Little Britain; The Umbillical Brothers.
37. Bed sheets as a child?
I guess so?
38. Worst injury you’ve ever had?
Broken bones, but a dislocation was more painful. I’ve got a crescent moon scar between my eyes. I think that’s cool :)
39. Do you love where you live?
It’s okay. It’s briliant in summer though, as Queensland is too hot everywhere else.
40. How many TV’s are in your house?
Just one. I try and avoid it. I hate advertising (oh, I found a proper hate!)
41. What is your worst habit?
Not getting enough sleep.
42. How many dogs do you have?
One big fluffy husky :)
43. Does someone have a crush on you?
I hope that I’m married to her!
45. What is your favorite book?
Stardust is right up there, but so is Wicked, Alice in Wonderland, Dune, Year of Wonders, Harry Potter, Interview With the Vampire. I could go on…
46. What is your favorite candy?
Chocolate. Nearly any sort will do…
47. What is your favorite sports team?
Sports schmorts. I’d rather do than watch, and team stuff wasn’t as satisfying as individual stuff.
48. What song do you want played at your funeral?
I’m planning not to die.
49. What were you doing at 12 AM last night?
Actually sleeping for a change.
50. What was the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning?
Damn, my dreams evaporated too quickly.
So now it’s your turn…!
Mohammad Khaksar

mlgkats

Damian replied
Haha, thanks Mel! I think you could be right about my little girl :)
deliriousgirl
How very revealing!! You and I apparently have the same biggest fear right now too. Thanks sweetie!
Damian replied
Thanks Jen, I thought this was a fun thing to do :)
Ooh, potential career change on the horizon for you?
Anne van Alkemade
Hey I love it. Should I dare try or am I just procrastinating?
Damian replied
Haha, thanks :)
And of course you should do it! It sorta is procrastinating, but we won’t ever say that word here again :)
deliriousgirl
Been thinking about a change for a decade actually, I’m burnt out and crispy on this one. And I have made some progress toward making money writing, I’m now writing regular content and being paid regularly by 2 different online ventures, zygoteinmycoffee and thebluegoosenews. Which is good news, just not enough to let go of the full-time gig as of yet. Sighhhhh, I’m just so tired of the academia bureaucracies that I have to fight tooth and nail every day.
Damian replied
Academia must clone their bureaucracies and send them to each uni, LOL! Then they take slightly watered down versions and send them to all the govt agencies. Sorry it’s pushed you to burn out, that sucks! (I passed through burn out town with the PhD, but gradually regained my sanity). I’m glad to hear you’re able to get some regular writing money. Shame it’s so hard to come by.
From this end, had to do some big future thinking in the very recent past, so plans are in motion. I had the moment of wondering, what if this was my last day alive, am I happy with the work I’ve done? And the answer is that while it’s interesting, it’s not satisfying. I could achieve something fantastic in science, but I don’t really care. My science is a backseat one, feeding into a team, so I’ll never have any glory or acknowedgement. So I guess I want to be in a position where hard work will pay off.
There should be warnings on uni courses for science careers “CAUTION, must be prepared to give up research to spend endless hours fighting and backstabbing other research groups for funding grants”, because the people who are there for the thrill of discovery are going to get their spirits crushed.
Firedrake
HAHA
I tried to do push up once, and failed miserably. I was so surprised, I thought I’d be able to do at least a few!
Damian replied
Oh no, LOL! Not even one? Right, you’ve got homework miss! LOL :)
Firedrake
I know, it was so ridiculous, I just collapsed. And then laughed at how ridiculous it was :)
Chasing my beasts around should keep me fit!!
Damian replied
That would’ve been a good spectator sport, LOL!
Anne van Alkemade
Hey Damian – what happened to #15?
Damian replied
You’re observant Anne! That’s a question only JC can answer, LOL!
Or you can make one up for it?!
mlgkats
i know i am i could tell by her photo :)
and you are very welcome
Alix Purcell
LOL. I like your answer to cigarettes… very honest. Also, I plan on not dying too. Good one ;)
Damian replied
LOL, thanks Alix :)
I’d learnt how to roll smokes for my Grandpa as a little kid, even while telling him it was no good for him, so I could pretend to be a smoker if I had to when I was older :)
And some of the small band venues I spent years in had no ventilation, so I’m sure I got just as much smoke inhalation as a smoker just by being there. I’m so glad smoking’s banned everywhere now!
And we’re both doing well on the not dying yet thing too, LOL!
Shannon Rene' ...
lol, i might just follow your footsteps and do one of these cute lil journals…..;)
Damian replied
Oh Shannon, of course you should :)
darkestartist
Damian, this was great to wake up and drink coffee with….we have many of the same favorite books….and if you haven’t already you might like this place for keeping track of them all! http://www.goodreads.com/
anyways, very nice insight into the mind that is the man Damian :) I enjoy getting to know you better. Your stories intrigue me, even if i don’t have much time to comment on them!
Damian replied
Haha, glad to share a morning coffee with you :)
You’re a good source of websites, I hadn’t seen that one before!
And I’m glad you read my stories too, thanks! Intrigue is good :)
Paul Rees-Jones
HA…Great…Little Britain cracks me up too…and between you and me…Japan is the place on my list to go before I die….Stardust was a wicked book, the movie was good too, though it left a lot out.
JC has really started something here… : { )}
Damian replied
Yes, gotta love Little Britain!!
And Japan is excellent. I’ve wanted to go there from as long as I could remember, thanks to manga/anime and everything samurai/ninja related, LOL! I was so miserable to come home to Australia (even though I was only there for weeks not years), but I’ve got over it now :)
ChainmailChick
The zombies ARE coming. I keep telling people that.
Best day evah: the day I woke up and realized I didn’t have to work for someone else again! Woohoo!
Great list…and Jo, where’s #15? I didn’t even notice it missing, lol.
Damian replied
LOL, the zombies are coming are they? cough Haven’t seen any in your writing section lately cough
I’m hoping to have a ‘best day evah’ just like yours one day :)
Natella2020
I love your answer to #21. Right now, my answer to #36 would be your #35.
Damian replied
Thanks Natella, and glad to make you laugh :)
jcmontgomery
Not much for zombies eh? Maybe Gayla should show you how she uses her Katana? LOL
Oh, and I fixed my…was actually missing 34 and 44. Hope it doesn’t cause too much of a problem to edit. Thanks for sharing Damian!
Damian replied
Ooh, I’d like to see Gayla swing her katana. We’ll have to pressure her for a pic!
I think I’d only ever seen one zombie movie before Gayla started writing her zombie series, and I’ve now seen about another four, LOL! I wouldn’t call my zombie dreams nightmares, as they don’t seem to come with those night terrors. But then, sometimes the things that do come with night terrors are just plain silly! LOL :)
Zolton
Ha ha. Never considered being a vegetarian, but hail to all pork! Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Damian replied
My pleasure Zolton, and the same to you :)
I thought of going vego for awhile, but decided I’d be very bad at it, and I have no moral problem with eating meat. I lived with a vego friend for ages, and that’s probably more where it came from.
kseriphyn
cool read
Damian replied
Thanks Ronnie :)
filfil
It’s fun learning about people like this. and some of your answers are hilarious!!!!!!!!
Damian replied
LOL, thanks filfil :)
This has been fun, I agree!
bellmusker
Ah, I’ve never seen “Little Britain” or read “Harry Potter”.....but I do love a fine blue vein cheese. Sure you can’t be converted? :-) And you have a husky; so, so beautiful! I’m thoroughly enjoying these 50 question posts…..such interesting reads!
Damian replied
Little Britain’s excellent… some very funny stuff there :)
I’d held out on Harry Potter cos it’s a kids series, but was forced through social obligation to go to the cinema to see the first movie. After that I read the books and have been a fan, LOL :)
My husky is wonderful! Not sooo sure about the cheese, haha! But, hey, I’ve tried it :)
