interesting shot of the praying mantis.
do you have it as a specimen in a container.
regards Aletta
they are intriguing insects. I added more in my portfolio.
if you want to have a look.
night..

Thanks Aletta, yep, this guy isn’t with the land of the living anymore. Had to do some insect biology at uni, and part of that was mounting and pinning them for a collection. I’ve been meaning to get them out for some photos, and had a great beam of sunlight on the weekend, so had a go.
I wanted to try and make it look a bit more alive :)
Suzanne German
it looks mean!!! – but i prefer the second one(almost has a halo like ‘the saint’ ).
Michael Douglass
Very cool shots Damian, apart from being amazing close ups I really like the colours and use of space you obtained. Great work.
Michelle422
Isn’t Nature soo cool! I do adore your creativity. Words and photos. Best wishes, Michelle.
Damian
Thanks Suzanne, I like the halo on the other one too. I like this one for the clarity of it though. Now I need to take a shot that combines both effects :)
Damian
Thanks Kalb! I had to work for the space – this is my kitchen, in a patch of morning light, hand held. I had him positioned so he was backlit, and hanging in space, then was lying on the floor underneath shooting up with my macro lens. The sun was giving a good glow to him.
Damian
Thanks Michelle, I’m glad you like my stuff here! There’s a lot to be found in nature for sure, thanks :)
wellman
Hey Damian – this as a thumbnail just begs to be explored – the high contrast and unique cropping work a treat. A great image!
Damian
LOL thanks wellman! I thought the thumb for this one came up pretty interesting as well :)
I didn’t actually do any cropping on this one, but I did adjust the levels in Photoshop. The bright light from behind gave the cool shine to it, and made the eyes glow. Nice and alien looking!

Hi Damien, well this is certainly a different view of these cute little insects. I often come across them and stick insects and have never seen them in this way…thanks for opening my eyes and great shot too;)
Damian
Thanks a lot Shanina! I’m glad you like it :)

Love how you’ve brought out the sinister nature of this with the pose and the black space behind it. I’m running back to the anthill fast…
Damian
Thanks Chris! I’m glad you thought it was sinister. You’d probably be safe in the anthill lol!
Janine Tinley
Oh yeah, I love it…simple and striking with an abstract feel.
Damian
Thanks a lot Janine :)

You really get a sense of the purpose and intent of the mantis. It means business and looks downright creepy with the glow in its eyes. Very well done!
Damian
Thanks Rowan, glad you like it!
