Death Comes Swiftly

Thanks Aletta, yep, this guy isn’t with the land of the living anymore. Had to do some insect biology at uni, and part of that was mounting and pinning them for a collection. I’ve been meaning to get them out for some photos, and had a great beam of sunlight on the weekend, so had a go.
I wanted to try and make it look a bit more alive :)

it looks mean!!! – but i prefer the second one(almost has a halo like ‘the saint’ ).

Very cool shots Damian, apart from being amazing close ups I really like the colours and use of space you obtained. Great work.

Thanks Kalb! I had to work for the space – this is my kitchen, in a patch of morning light, hand held. I had him positioned so he was backlit, and hanging in space, then was lying on the floor underneath shooting up with my macro lens. The sun was giving a good glow to him.

LOL thanks wellman! I thought the thumb for this one came up pretty interesting as well :)
I didn’t actually do any cropping on this one, but I did adjust the levels in Photoshop. The bright light from behind gave the cool shine to it, and made the eyes glow. Nice and alien looking!

Hi Damien, well this is certainly a different view of these cute little insects. I often come across them and stick insects and have never seen them in this way…thanks for opening my eyes and great shot too;)

You really get a sense of the purpose and intent of the mantis. It means business and looks downright creepy with the glow in its eyes. Very well done!
