Hopes & Dreams
Tired yet happy; a mother and child.
The far away look and tired expression remind me of Dorothea Lange’s photo “Migrant Mother”, obviously without the desperate circumstances and social commentary.

So lovely – your comments sum it all up and i love the child, distracted and already on to something else. You’ve captured her ‘calm’ a moment of serenity (just before the kid darts off again!). Beautiful work.
Moth
Another really good shot Damian. The look in the mothers eyes is timeless.
Damian
Thanks Lisadee, just a brief moment of calm too :)
Damian
Thank you Steve!
Andrew Bosman
Ripper Damian, the words match the shot perfectly. Well done.
Leia
There’s such a lovely softness to this photo. It’s beautiful. The mother and baby both have gorgeous smooth skin too!
Damian
Thanks Andrew!

Rhondaloner
Very nice and I think you hit it on the head when you said tired but happy. That is exactly what her face says to me. I like the blue hue to it.
Damian
Thanks Rhondaloner, I think that’s the truth of it :)
Chris White
Damian, this is such a heartfelt portrait, full of tenderness.

This is so beautiful…I love the profile of the little one and the expression on the mothers face…can certainly relate to the fatique aspect….just wish i looked that beautiful when i was so tired!
Damian
Thanks artemis :)
There’s something to be said for capturing a fleeting moment, as a posed one has a different feel. I’m sure you’d have a beautiful moment amidst the tiredness lol (as for me, I’m behind the camera hehe, luckily)
LisaG
This is precious, the depth of love is conveyed to the viewer is tangible. Thank you :)))
Damian
Thanks Lisa, I’m glad you thought so :)
marieancolie
She has really a lovely pretty face….. Something in her eyes goes to the photographer, and all the serenity of the moment is there, as the eye of the viewer convey to the baby.
I may not express my feeling correctly Damian, but this photo touches my heart. Beautifully done.
Damian
Thanks marie-ancolie, I understand you perfectly, thank you for saying so!
marieancolie

Your description sums it up perfectly Damian. Nicely captured.
I expect my own expression will be similar soon, with the imminent arrival of our twins.
Damian
OMG mate – twins! Congrats – I think your expression will be one of fatigue for sure, but twice the smiles straight up too :)
David Stuart
Thanks mate!! we’re both very excited and shitting ourselves at the same time. I work from home so I will be able to share all the smiles and then disappear into the office at the first sign of trouble LOL
Damian
Oh yeah, I remember that feeling. The mix of terror and joy! I also tried to not smile too much at your plan of disappearing into the office LOL!
Elena Ray
great portrait-a family classic. I thought immediately of Dorthea Lange’s photo as well.

Alan Rodmell
A beautiful shot….
She really is making the most of the ten seconds peace she has before the little one loses interest in whatever is off to the left and starts running riot again.
i love the lighting too. Keep up the good work mate
Damian
Thanks arodmell, you’ve got it! Might not have even been 10 seconds hehe! Glad you like it.

EdgeOfReality
A lovely natural capture and this is perfect for black and white. The expression on the mothers face. The bond between Mother and Child. The expression of love, tiredness or maybe just simply…....”You could have at least waited for me to put some make-up on”
Damian replied
Thanks EdgeOfReality, that a lovely comment! LOL, maybe it was about the sneaky shot ;)
I really like this shot in colour too, but the colours ar so bright and primary and vibrant, the sky so clear and blue, that it was really conflicting with the fatigue in the expression. I felt that the B&W made it more consistent.
RSart
a gentle portrait. You must be so proud of your work. It documents a depth of feelings, of love that goes to the soul of your subjects.
Damian replied
Thanks for that, RSart, that’s lovely of you to say so :)
Helena Nelson-...
Nice B &W portrait, her expression was caught at the perfect moment.
Damian replied
Thanks Helena :)
