Malevolent Beauty
Glowing and beautiful in the warm sunlight, these flowers belong to an insideous green creeping plague. Don’t turn your back, you’ll feel their spines lodge…

Great shot, really like the focus on it.
They do look slightly menacing, evily beautiful.
Damian
Thanks Michael! I think ‘triffid’ every time I look at it LOL! Can you make out the thorns?
Moth
Wonderfull shot Damian.
The detail in the forground flower is spot on.
dahimages
Call me crazy…but I just wanna stick my face into the middle of this flower..she’s ominous but tempting LOL..
Damian
Thanks a lot Steve!
Damian
I know what you mean dahimages lol! The flowers are nice… a little too nice! They just look like they’re lurking, waiting for prey.
Suzanne German
triffids eh?....but they were far more spooky as i recall…like black and white damien…works nicely with this pair.
Damian
Haha maybe they were Suzanne – these are their little cousins! Thanks.
botanicfanatic
Omg those thorns are something else! :-O The flowers are fantastic – good title.
Cathie Tranent
Oh – these are evil …. ‘bout time the much maligned cactus got more of a guernsey!!
PS …. Did you get any of the back of it!! XD
PPS …. More power to you for using the word malevolent in a flower shot!!
Andrew Bosman
Well I’m scared!
Suzanne German
he he he andrew…..
Damian
Thanks Alison, and the thorns are huge!
Damian
Thanks Cathie! I added the name into the tags, just for interest, but I was trying to control my urge to go ‘biologist’ on people :)
- haha – no images of the back of it, but next time I see some I will be for sure too!!
- glad you liked malevolent – It’s actually a shocking weed, so I’m a bit torn by liking the flower!
Damian
Rightly so Andrew :)
transmute
Hey Damian, I like the translucency of the blooms, and the reference to Day Of The Triffids
Damian
Thanks Chris, the flowers had a nice glow to them with the light (one thing that isn’t as obvious in B&W, but overall I like it more in B&W). And it just says ‘Triffid’ to me :)
Steven Sandner
nice shot, i love the contrasts of the white pristine flowers and the scrubby background!
Damian
Thanks a lot Steven!
Asia Barsoski
reminds me of one of the original star trek episodes where the flowers on a strange planet shoot the crew.
Damian
Haha – nice one Asia! I haven’t seen it, but maybe I should!
Jessica Tremp
beautiful
Damian
Thanks Jessica!
EdgeOfReality
Well evil or whatever you have to admit that the flower is very showy. Perhaps to tempt you to pick it.
Damian replied
LOL, I know! They’re great flowers despite it all :)
Tammara
Very beautiful! I love that the color has been taken away so you focus on the shapes.
Damian replied
Thanks Tammara. I like the B&W for that too. It has some great shapes in the spines and leaves as well as the flowers.
Tracey Mac
From the thumb…I thought that this was an image of two dancing fairies…...how wrong was I? (imagines their spines lunging) lol…..beautiful image….
Gorgeous lighting…..
Damian replied
Oh, two dancing faeries would have been wonderful! But that’s a great idea for something to go and make, LOL! The flowers would make great flower faerie dresses :)
