The Curious Kraken
I’ve had Kraken on the mind a little bit lately, so have ended up with this image and my Kraken story. This image isn’t painting a scene from the story, as I didn’t have a commercial fishing ship image to play with (that’s okay, I’m not looking for one…!)
The Curious Kraken belongs to the following groups:

Awesome! Actually wouldn’t mind going near the water to see a Kraken…. :D
Damian
Excellent, thanks t1nyskert! :)
Thanks FireRabbit, and I agree. Although I’d be on the beach with a big telephoto lens, rather than on a boat ;)
Von McKnelly
LOL Brilliant! I think the little boat works better than a big commercial boat.
Damian
Cheers Von, glad you like it! And I’d hate to be that fisherman right about now, LOL!

Cheers Heather!

Lucindawind
Kraken is? can ya tell Im not from Australia lol
fantastic work !
Lucindawind
I didnt see the last Pirates yet ... is it from the movie?
Damian
Thanks Elaine :)
The Kraken is one of the great sea beasts, like the sea serpent. Certainly not an Australian creation :)
‘Kraken’ is a Norwegian word first used in 1755, based on legends of tenticled beasts that grabbed ships and pulled them under the ocean (had other names before that like the polyp, poulpe, teuthos). Potentially based on giant squid, but well before the giant squid were accepted as real creatures.
Tennyson wrote a poem about them in 1830, and Aristotle and Pliny were writing about them much earlier.
The Pirates movies feature one, but it isn’t their creation by a long way.
Michelle Rogers
This is brilliant! How much fun it would have been to create! Reminds me of a movie I saw the other night about sea creatures: Pirahna 2 – those babies flew and thrived on dry land as well!
Damian
Thanks Michelle! Yep, I had fun making this! I’d first though, how cool would it be to see an image like that, and then decided I’d make one when I couldn’t find one :)
I haven’t seen Pirahna 2, LOL! Is it worth seeing? :)

Cheers Aletta! Hopefully you don’t if you’re out on the water!
Simon Mears
am i seeing 2 Kraken.. or just the tip of one mighty beast?.. the Royal Navy on 1803 used 3 Kraken in their campaign again the French naval ports, that’s a little known fact. Super photo of a little known and less seen mammal.
Damian
Thanks Simon :)
I’m thinking it’s the one creature, and it’s lying at an angle to the surface. And I’d be interested to read about the Royal Navy event you mention.
