When the War Is Over

When the War Is Over

The spent cases of bullets fired a lifetime ago, left to age in the dust.

Not from a war in reality, but from farm life. Some of these I found, belonging to the gun of a property owner in the distant past, and others I created.

this looks cool. I like it very much. What do you mean,”others I created?”

  • Damian replied

    Thanks filfil :)
I just meant some of the shells were more recently fired, while some of them could have been on the ground for 50 years.

nice perspective, does conjure up war doesn’t it

  • Damian replied

Thanks Bex, yeah I thought so. I’ve got some old .303 shells, and they definately do!

I tried to take some of those (spent of course!) home from Vietnam. Australian Customs were not happy! I was told they considered all shells even spent ones to be live. Sounds like magic to me!

  • Damian replied

That’s a shame customs wouldn’t let you bring them in! I can’t think of a real reason why they should be so grumpy on that when they would’ve been empty and old, LOL!

Yeah it was wierd, they should have given me a sensible reason for confiscating them, not cause they were ‘live’! haha

Crazy, this reminds me of the movie ‘blood diamond’ ...the madness that greed inspires…

  • Damian replied

Cheers Steven! That was a mad movie. Very glad these bullets weren’t used in that sort way!

LOL agreed! ...I was actually thinking of ‘Lord of War’ -nicolas cage… relatively new(2-3yrs), all about arms smuggling. (a more direct/interesting film compared to blood diamond + really really cool scenes)

best quote: “There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That’s one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?” ... Yuri Orlov: They say, “Evil prevails when good men fail to act.” What they ought to say is, “Evil prevails.”

  • Damian replied

I haven’t seen Lord of War, but good quotes, LOL!
