OH THIS FLIGHT OF HUMAN PLIGHT

Oh this flight of human plight
As onward through the pitch of night
These laden wings by burning shackles
Fraught by sneers and fangs of jackals
Gnawing holes inside of me
Oh that I might one day be free
Of shard of bitter blackened glass
Tarnished by the smoke and wrath
Of damaged woman’s viper fangs
Inserted in this lover’s veins
Pumping poison throughout the day
Black as soot from hatred’s sway
And yet a loosening has begun
As thawing rays of loving sun
Do kiss my face once always loathed
Now enraptured in passion clothed
And know I naught of love like this
Of tender touch and Angel’s lips
Caress and stroke and loving care
No more in darkness must I share
Yet out and up and far away
Fly these wings to a better day
Shredding scars of thorns wrapped round
Fanged howls scream hateful sound
For now what shall they hate upon
Once object of their loathings gone
Now stars surround my smiling face
As soaring now in a joyous space
Love flooding canopy over me
No more in prison nor captive be
These mighty wings whose holes have healed
Have now fully opened to reveal
A heart forsaken and now on fire
To light the night and to inspire
All ye captives shackled below
Look up, look up and surely know
That there be hope above thee now
That none can steal nor taint again
For rise and soar on Lover’s Wind.
