Church of St. Augusta by Greg Belfrage

Sioux Falls, S.D. (USA) – Calvary Cathedral was built in downtown Sioux Falls and consecrated in 1889. The church was built out of Sioux quartzite, like many of the city’s other historic and early buildings. Originally named the Church of St. Augusta, the church quickly became known as Calvary Cathedral. The cathedral is a repository for Christian art and artifacts, including three historic crosses.

Great colors. And, as usual, great POV>

  • Thanks, Sheryl! I really would love to get a photo at night with those beautiful windows lighted from the inside. This chuch is so much larger than you can see here, but there’s so much clutter… street lamps in the foreground blocking the view and an ugly television tower directly behind.

I will look forward to seeing that pic if you’re able to capture it. Churches are such pretty places. I love the quiet reverence they exude. Even the inside brings peace and a feeling of closeness with God.

  • There are times I read your words and its almost like I wrote them, Sheryl. I feel exactly the same way!

Great perspective on this city landmark, Greg. Your photography is maturing nicely. Looking forward to the next time we can get out either during a blue hour or at night.

  • Thanks so much, Scott!
