A narrow road winds through dense forest to the hilltop village of Saint Bertrand de Comminges in south-western France. The cathedral on the crown of the hill has a commanding view of the valley, including the ruins of a Roman colony established in 72BC. The Cathedral is on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
