Villarrica Volcano Chile - Explore Feature 02/29/2012 by

See also our Chile Lindo Group. Country: Chile. Area: Pucon / Villarrica. Volcano Villarrica is an active volcano with an active lava lake in its crater. The crater contains also a glacier. The steam you see on the photo is called a fumarole, an opening in a planet’s crust, often in the neighborhood of volcanoes, which emits steam and gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen sulfide. The steam is created when superheated water turns to steam as its pressure drops when it emerges from the ground.

German amateur photographer living in Switzerland. Nature and Landscapes. I have lived for many years in a very beautiful rural region at the very south of Bavaria. So I had a lot of subjects to take photos from, especially landscapes, mountains, lakes, woods, rivers, picturesque villages, countryside. Recently I moved to Switzerland. Nikon D7K, D90, Pentax K20D, Pentax K-x, Nikon D3K. I am also a host to the Chile Lindo Group.
