I did, I did, oh so many years ago I fell in love with mountains, especially those that touched the skies, just can’t seem to get enough of the views, as well in many cases the history involved with others involvement of such predominant relationships of their presence !

  • Daidalos replied

What a beautiful comment Paul, thank you very much. I agree 100 %. Mountains are a wonderful natural phenomenon. A gift from nature. I love them too and I live here in a mountain region, I can see the beginning german Alps (Mountain Karwendel) from the window of my kitchen…

Oh, and you know I have been in Berchtesgaden many times and it is wonderful to see this beautiful mountain range from this perspective. It is called the Watzmann, yes?

  • Daidalos replied

Thank you very much Sharon. No, this mountain is not the Watzmann, but is very close to it. This mountain is called “Stadelhorn” and belongs to a “Sierra” called Reiter Alm, or Reiteralm or Reiteralp (many names for the same Sierra). But this Sierra belongs to a group of three Sierras, one of them is the Watzmann, it is very close to the place I took this photo. In fact, from the place I took this photo, I had a view to the Watzmann too, which would have been to the very left side of the photo. And in-between there is a view to the third Sierra: “Hochkalter”. This is a stunning vista-place, a “mirador”, (the place I took the photo) from which you can look towards three different, huge Sierras, provided weather is fine. The view reaches about 40 kms (!). From one place, you can see the Watzmann-Group, the Hochkalter and the Reiteralm, three Sierras. It is a breath-taking view. This place (mirador) is very close to the small town “Ramsau” and you can reach it driving by car, you dont have to climb mountains. But climbing the mountains you get an even more spectacular vista, of course. The whole area is breath-taking and wonderful, and is protected by law (national park). No industry, no pollution here, just pure nature.

  • Sharon Mau

    Sharon Mau

“to the left”.. thank you so much for helping me understand the location of what I am viewing and where the Watzmann is from this perspective.
‘Ae, you are so right Alex, it is a stunning vista place.
It is so beautiful one must see it to truly appreciate it’s grandeur. I have seen this area in summer and in winter and it is so picturesque and very beautiful. I have gazed in wonder at this amazing range many times and I love Berchtesgaden, it was one of my favourite weekend destinations, along with the beautiful village of Garmisch when I was living in Munich, two of my favourites of many. I often stayed at the Hotel Hainberg Pensions when I was there. Do you know it? I remember the view of this mountain range from the river through the village, and how clean and sweet the crisp mountain air is in Berchtesgaden, even after all these years it is still fresh in my memory I loved it so.

I marveled at the Zugspitze too.
My photographs of this area are all 35mm. How I wish I had digital then. Mahalo for your wonderful reply :))

  • Daidalos replied

Thank you very much for your kind comments Sharon, much appreciated. We live close to Garmisch, about 30 minutes. Berchtesgaden is about 1,5 hours from our home. We often visit Berchtesgaden, Bad Reichenhall and Ruhpolding for the day, it is a wonderful area :))
