Tribune Clock Tower

The tribune Tower, was built as the home of the Oakland Tribune Newspaper and is the symbol of both the newspaper and the city of Oakland.
The tower was opened by Joseph R. Knowland in 1924. The building was declared a city landmark
on May 1976.
The Tribune was a solid Republican newspaper.
The tower was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and remained empty untill 1955.
The Oakland Tribune had to relocate to a new office in Jack London Square.
The tower was renovated in the late 1990 s.
to this date, it is occupied with condos and business offices.
The tribune’s parent company ANG Newspaper returned to the building after it reopened in 1999.
in late 2006, Protopappas entered negociations with Edward B. kislinger and the tower was sold to Kislinger for approximately $ 15 Millions Dollard.
The clock faces were restored and clean the late months of 2006.
With cleaner faces, the numbers were enlarged and redefined making them visible from several blocks. The Oakland Tribune moved to new office on Oak port St on May 2007.
This historical landmark Tower Clock building is worthseeing . It stands out against the beautiful blue sky.
Considered a close architectural replica of the Campanile located at the Basilica San Marco in Venice, The tribune Clock Tower is a great and imposing edifice with its 305 feet high.
The architectural style is a mix of Renaissance and Baroque . The facade was built with red bricks .
