On a very calm and tranquil Sunday morning 1500 very fit athletes of all ages and sizes arrived in Portarlington ready to take on the triathlon of 23 years, the longest running in Victoria.
With warm weather leading up to the event, the normally chilly waters of Corio Bay were a welcoming 21 degrees, the athletes challenge of an 800m swim, a 26km cycle and an 8km run was there for them to take on.
With a huge field of Elite, age-grouper and teams it was sure to be a great contest, in the Elite men, Brent Schuster took the honours in a time of 1hr 15mins whilst in the Elite womens Jaime Chisholm crossed the finish line at 1hr 32mins.
Earlier in the day at 7.15am the Brooks fun tri also attracted a huge field of novices and not so fit but enthusiastic athletes who compete over shorter distances.
The event continues to attract huge numbers to the Bellarine town and competitors love coming back as it gets them out to a beautiful part of our great coastline.
