Sunrise over Lake Wivenhoe
After only 3.5 hours sleep I dragged myself out of bed at 3am to drive to Lake Wivenhoe and make some sunrise photographs.
This is but on of them, taken about 20 minutes after official sunrise and is a sister shot to the photo that won the Esk Shire “Valley of the Lakes” Photo comp for 2007 (Amateur and Outright winner).

you must of thought it was well worth the effort when you saw this shot. Nice one Mate
David de Groot
Definitely did :)
Mind you, you can never really tell until you get home and see them on the big screen. The little LCD screens give you a rough idea, but it’s just not good enough for a full evaluation on site.

Beautiful sunset color and reflection. The composition and perspective are very good. The rock in the middle serves as a focal point, that lets the viewer stop for a minute and then explore the rest of the image.
David de Groot
Thanks Eyal, a sunset would have been so much more civilised, but no, this was taken at the other end of the day after getting up at 3am to be here for it :)
Naomi Frost
Another stunning image, David. Perfect framing and what a reflection!
David de Groot
Thanks Naomi. ‘twas worth the effort of an early rise (I’m really not a morning person, which is rather annoying given how good the morning light is for photography).

Love it!
Simple as that :D!
David de Groot
Thanks Nicole :)

I am going to have to take a leaf out of your book and get my lazy backside out of bed to get shots like this one…...........truly beautifull…..lucky to get such good clouds after driving all that way. You were well rewarded

beautiful capture

I’ve had excellent luck on both my dawn shoots (yeah, I’ve only been determined enough twice to get up and travel at that time of the morning). Dawns are really pot-luck most of the time as you can’t predict how good the weather is going to be or if you’ll get an interesting sunrise at all.

Congrats on the comp win! This is a great photo. Thanks for adding this to the Brisbane group.
David de Groot replied
Thanks Michelle. I remembered to add it to the group when I replaced it with a slightly larger version (just large enough to print at the ‘Large’ size).

wonderful shot, that reflection is magic!

Thanks – it was well worth getting up that early for it :)
