On the third Sunday of every month the small goldmining town of Talbot turns its historic precinct into one of regional Victoria’s most successful farmers markets.
Over 100 stall holders showcase locally produced goods ranging from seasonal fruits, vegetables and organic meats to cheeses, salami, olives, honey, baked goods and even some live produce.
To a young man of around six years old, contemplating the purchase of a cute and tiny kid, we suggested: “you could call him Billy, for Billy Goat”, “nah” he replied, “I’m gunna to call him Troy”.
Go for the shopping, the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the ambient live music and sympathetically restored architecture. Then stay for lunch: the town square is the venue for picnic style, al fresco dining with a large selection of home made, hot and cold taste sensations prepared in local country kitchens.
