Book Review - “Presenting Miss Bertie Page by Mel Brackstone”

I am absolutely delighted to share with you the arrival of an online purchase I made several weeks ago.
I don’t know if you know or not – but recently RedBubble partnered with blurb, the creative online book publishers to offer a new service to all RedBubble members: publish your own photography/art books and sell them online! It was also at about that time that Mel Brackstone was capturing the dreamiest of images of Miss Bertie Page – doing what she does best – using a handmade loupy lens thanks to Matt Penfold.…

“Hmmm…”, me thought, “…wouldn’t it be great if I had a book where every page was a loupy lens photograph of Miss Bertie Page as photographed by Mel?” Luckily with the magic of perfect timing and the internet I’m now the proud owner of a “Presenting Miss Bertie Page by Mel Bracks

Thank You for your feedback :)

I’ve been away with work over the past few days, and have had very minimal internet access. During this time, one of my images was featured on the Home Page – Woo hoo!!! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Doreen Phillips for selecting one of my images for inclusion on the RedBubble Home Page I would also like to thank everyone for your wonderful comments, favouritings and for adding me to your watchlist – I really appreciate your feedback and your kind words; thank you!…

I also need to apologise to Tracy Wallace whose original image “Clumsy Misfortune”: was the inspiration for my image “All Grown Up”: as the links I had to her inspirational

Candid Photos from the Fifties Fair 2009

So, last week was the annual Fifties Fair, an event held each year at Rose Seidler House. In it’s 15th year, the event celebrates all that is the Fifties.…

This year I went along with Cordelia and met up with Tatiana and Peter and my aim was to spend a few hours people watching and of course shoot enough photos for a new Fifties Fair calendar for 2010.

Well, I chose not to flood RedBubble with all the photos, but if you’re interested in taking a look at some candid shots of people in their fifties’ gear and poses, then pop over to flickr and see what you think. Candid photography is really tricky and certainly challenging (although at an event like this one, many people are only too happy to pose for you, so it’s not too bad in that respect. It’s the crowds of people that can prove chal

Are you Being Silly, or are you staying safe?

Way back in January, the very first image I uploaded for 2009 came with a resolution for the year, and that was to Be Silly. And by that I meant, that I would try and stay out of my comfort zone and do things that I would perhaps walk away from for whatever reason. Life is waaay too short to stay in the comfort zone we build for ourselves, and it can be quite exhiliarating to do something out of the ordinary. (Both in real life, and photography/art life)…

Well, here we are almost the end of July, and have I maintained the resolution of Being Silly? You bet I have. The latest instance can be seen below. Have you chanced upon abandoned objects and continued to walk away, when if you had put that motto of Being Silly into action and grabbed some props, a camera, your best friend and your

Wow - What a week!

I’ve just celebrated 2 years as a RedBubble member, and my week just keeps getting better! So much excitement – I don’t know where to start……

~ two of my dear friends surprised me this weekend by taking me out to see French and Saunders – absolutely hilarious show, and a wonderful surprise.
~ my lovely family bought me a Canon 50D camera on the weekend! (you should hear me squeal in delight everytime I take a photo…I think that will wear thin with the family, though…)
~ my hybrid image of dance lessons with Miss Veronique won the first monthly challenge on RedBubble – Wow!! I am totally blown away!
~ a recent photo shoot I completed has resulted in one of my photographs being printed as the front cover of a local mini-magazine, and I finally have a copy of the magazine!
~ and tomorrow is my

Happy Red Bubble Day to me

It’s that time already. This time last year I was celebrating my one year on RedBubble.…

How time flies – it’s now two years on Red Bubble!

I finished last year’s journal entry by stating: I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and friendship to those of you who have made this year such a joyous and enriching one for me – I wouldn’t have missed it for the world! and I can honestly say that the same goes for this year. It’s been an amazing year of growth, discovery, adventure and importantly of friendship. So, to the many friends I have made on here, a big thank you to you all for being so supportive and so inspirational. I have continued on my creative journey, and your support, friendship and constant inspiration has been invaluable to me.

Thank you and Happy Red Bubble Day to you

How do you know if you need a camera upgrade?

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my camera and have been doing a bit of research, as well as saving my pennies, of course. I’m thinking of upgrading from my very cute little Canon S5 IS camera to a camera that can do oh-so-much-more.…

The dilemna is this: how do you know you even need to upgrade?

There’s nothing wrong with my camera, it’s in perfect working order. I don’t need to worry about packing lenses for it, as it doesn’t come with any. It has some manual settings and room for creative image making. It wasn’t that expensive that if I drop it/lose it, it won’t be the end of the earth (well, it will be…but you know, not like some more expensive cameras that I could lose/break/drop).

So tell me, how did you know you were ready to upgrade your camera gear? I’m looking for answers

Have I missed anything?

I’ve been away on holidays for the last couple of weeks, with no access to RB – or much else for that matter. What’s been happening around here? Anything? Any pretty pictures that I’ve missed out on? What about journals, discussions, group happenings?

What’s been the highlight for you on the Bubble these past couple of weeks? Show me pictures, links, whatever – I know I should go though my activity monitor, but that would take ages and ages, and I just want a summary of the goings-on of RB.

As for the holiday, yes, had a lovely time away. : )
