All this time there’s been a technique called “Scanography”, and I’ve only just realised? Of course over the years I’ve scanned various body parts, like hands…but to legitimately scan objects and turn them into art? That I did not know. So, what I want to now know is, what other obscure photographic techniques are out there that I haven’t heard of?
Here’s some samples of my first scanographs:
Others can be found here

TextureoftheSin
well aren’t you clever!
Adriana Glackin:
Well, now you can see what I’ve been busy doing…lol!
Mel Brackstone...
There’s a whole world of scanography out there….don’t just stick to flowers! :D
Adriana Glackin:
Lol! You know flowers are my safety net! :-D
Mel Brackstone...
yes I know :D
Adriana Glackin:
And they don’t answer back, and I don’t fall over when I shoot them :-D
Silvia Ganora
Love your works! :)
Adriana Glackin:
Thank you Silvia!
Mel Brackstone...
Best thing I found was the DOF was incredible! You can use textures or cloth as background to change the black…you can scan textures to use on your own images too…
Adriana Glackin:
I’ve been scanning some of my own textures, but I never thought of scanning 3D objects. I really love that DOF – from sharp to blur in such a short distance. And the file size and detail – wow!
Cathie Tranent
Like this? Took me ages to find it again!!
Adriana Glackin:
Ha ha ha! Yes, how cute! He looks like he needs to go to a physio to get his neck massaged…it’s all out of whack! :-)
Cathie Tranent
And as for that face ….
Adriana Glackin:
Well, his lips are pursed, so he doesn’t look too happy…poor thing! ;-)

First time I have seen it with a nautilus: fascinating! The bookmark may be archived among thousands of similar in my other browser, but here is also a nice one.
Adriana Glackin:
Thanks for the link – love that nautilus!
Juilee Pryor
gorgeous Adriana… love it
Adriana Glackin:
Thanks Juilee :-))

Oh yeah. Buy a cheapo flatbed scanner, a large cardboard box, some black felt or black spray paint, and awaaaaaay you go.
We have an ongoing challenge for this over at “Photography Critique & Advice Group”http://www.redbubble.com/groups/photography-cri...
There are also many great artists on RB who do amazing scanography
Scanography… the coolest way to do a Still Life photo!
Adriana Glackin:
Oh, I can tell you, I’ll be having a play with this technique for a little while longer…just amazed at what you can scan. And yes, will pop over to the challenge – thanks for the link :-)

crumpled paper works really well with dry flowers I’ve done some of those
Adriana Glackin:
Thanks Christine, I’ll give that a go. I’ve got some dried flowers that I can try it out with :-)
Tania Rose
lol. Here are my scanography self portraits …lots of fun
Adriana Glackin:
They look terrific Tania. I thought the barrier was a heavy sheet of packing plastic, so there you go – shows you what I know! lol
BYRON
You could do a Still Life scanography entry for the Photographer of the Year comp too… its open for another day.
Adriana Glackin:
Oops – too late :( Was struck down with migraine, so more entries for me. I’ll definitely give still life a go using this technique.
Deborah Parkin

Adriana Glackin:
My pleasure Deborah :-)
Melanie Moor

Adriana Glackin:

I’m not admitting to anything but….
scanography with a good looking work colleague and photocopier at the office Christmas party can sometimes end up with awkward technical issues
…well that’s what the copier repairman said when he came to fix the broken glass.
Adriana Glackin:
Oh dear… !! :-D As long as it’s all in the name of research, there really shouldn’t be a problem – should there?
