Very gorgeous capture, but these don’t look like morels, are there more than on variety? I have seen the small black ones, and the regular morel. I love hunting, and EATING them, they sure are hard to find! All who gather should use a net bags so the spores can re-sew themselves!!
They are becoming endangered in our area.. because of gathering in paper bags!!!

  • Some books call them early morels because they usualy come up first. My grandma called them dog peckers! They do have a much longer stem than say the yellow morels. They have about the same taste. The woods we hunt are full of these and the Big yellows and grays. The problem here is loss of habitat. Farmes and home builders are cutting all the good woods. This is a secret and safe spot! thanks so much for looking!
