Born in San Francisco in 1956, the youngest of three, Carolyn has been involved in some sort of creative endeavor from a very tender age. In 1963, her family relocated to Southern California, so that her father could pursue his acting career. Her father, also an avid photographer and graphic artist, was a huge inspiration to her. Carolyn realized early on that she wanted to study art in college, and in 1979, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 3-D Fine Art from, (CSUN) California State University at Northridge. Her focus was woodworking and metal-smithing, as well as photography. She also had full access to a home darkroom, thanks to her father’s love of photography.
After earning her degree, Carolyn married Virgil Venditto and moved to Ventura County, California, where they raised two children, Tyson James and Melanie Rose. Virgil, being an artist himself, helped her countless times, with his immense insight and wide variety of skills. Over the years, Carolyn has collaborated with him on many of his varied projects. In 1996, the family relocated to Lake Havasu City to be nearer to Virgil’s family. Her many talents and skills include, wood working, metal-smithing, photography, ceramics, textiles, oil painting as well as fine and commercial graphic art design and production. She is basically interested in most anything that involves the creative process. From one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to logos or promotional business materials Carolyn attempts to give all her projects the attention they deserve.
Now that her children have grown, she intends on resuming her many diverse interests. With her photography, she aspires to put herself in “luck’s path” always looking for new and different ways of shooting. She contemplates her composition carefully before pressing the shutter button. By utilizing Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator she has expanded the possibilities in her work. She enjoys the idea of combining photos in a way of creating something unique and surreal. To Carolyn, a photograph, or any piece of art should act as a portal, a retreat, or a momentary escape from the physical world. The Dalai Lama wrote that, “As one’s insight into the ultimate nature of reality is deepened, one will eventually perceive phenomena as illusion like”. Every person perceives a similar picture in a somewhat different manner. Her artwork tries to create a world where the viewer can participate and see the color of their individual imaginations. Carolyn’s unique perspective gives her work a special quality that can only be achieved through the devotion and care that she puts into everything she does.
