Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Mothby Russell Fry
These little guys are just as fast as a hummingbird and almost as large. They also look similar to bumblebees. It was a bit of a challenge to get a decent photo of one.
I think sometimes that they reflect the inner me, I love to buzz around a food buffet and select the tastiest morsels.
This photo was taken about three miles north of Newport, which is about 30 miles north of Harrisburg.
Thanks everyone! I hadn’t seen one before today (not that I recall or maybe realized) until my stepmom pointed out several. She didn’t know what they were either, so I shot as much as possible hoping to get at least one good photo of the buggers. Then a search of the internet….. :-)

Very cool…. I seen one at mid spring time here in Eastern Ontario… But have not been lucky enough again…. They are fast nice work with this
Thank you for your comments. They are so quick that the Canon 40D had trouble focusing – but here’s a tip – focus on the flower and set the camera to burst and shoot, and shoot and shoot… ;-)

This is awesome Russell
Wow! Why do I never see these? Do they only come out in the day, unlike most moths? Great capture, Russ!
