Perhaps

I put on my converse
and that grey hoodie I’ve lately been so fond of
and I feel kinda pretty
as I’m on my way
The door is left ajar
no one will enter anymore
because the tea is tepid
and the tapestry is dull
and you never liked the place
anyhow
So off I am
it’s such a brave new world
and by brave, perhaps I mean stupid
and by new, perhaps I mean unnoticed
and it’s mostly a candid photo
it’s a blur and it’s a mess
and perhaps I should stop taking pictures
of a world I’m out to forget

Perhaps I’ll sit in a bar
where I haven’t been before
drunk, properly smashed
and I’ll scramble to the exit but end up on the floor
at last, out I go
with some well-meaning balderdash
from the man manning the door
thank you sir, I’m all ears
but you’ll only see my back from here

Perhaps I’ll wake up in the shadow
of a motel sign
with some red, flashing porn light
right between my eyes
And I’ll understand why they wander
those sad faces in the crowd
They realized, like I will,
that a broken heart can’t be left behind
but everything else
can
and perhaps then you’ll end up
a different
man
