The name is Dog

This morning I left my home around 7:45 to take my youngest grandchild, Zaiden, on his first trip to the zoo. He is 16 months old and until today the only creatures he had met were my dogs & cats, the ducks in the pond and his pet goat. Now I need to tell you this was an important trip for the development of his verbal skills because Zaiden calls all those creatures Dog, except for his goat whom he calls Baa.
So his Nana,( that be me) took this little angel on an quest to expand his world. He saw panthers, tigers, macaws, anteaters, parrots, apes, gators, snakes, monkeys, bats, swans, peacocks, jaguars, otters and goats. Yes he did….....today he called each and every one of them Dog except for the goats he called Baa.
But I am encouraged! He never became bored, never showed fear, never slowed down, looked at each creature, but above all else, he displayed for all to see and hear, the greatest, most stubborn determination at finding a way to get inside with each and every creature. God bless that angel!
Oh yes, it was a glorious day with the only exception of lots of catsup all down the front of my white shirt and the loss of three fingernails that I’m sure I seen a goat eating when I took my shoe off to see if my toe was broke after stubbing it on a rock while crawling under a fence to rescue a baby duck from my angel, Zaiden.
So now let me tell you this. I am a proud grandmother whom tonight can lay my head down to get some much needed rest, wearing a smug smile because Zaiden now knows at least fifteen different ways to say Dog.
