By the sea by Paul Fleming

By the sea by

By the sea, but hiding, in the grasses, beyond the dunes, lying, waiting, watching the waves tumble in, crashing on to each other, fighting for a place in the front of the line, racing, stretching for the dunes, but fail, too weak, it’s calm today, no strong surf, and here, beyond the dunes, the grasses twitch in the gentle breeze, dancing together, touching slightly, pulling away, standing tall, reaching for the last warm rays of the sun, it will be dark soon, shadows will come to take over, but the heat will stay, in the sand and air, and the dancing will continue on into the night
