I should have mentioned that none of my pictures have had any manipulation at all. All the colours are completely natural, and there’s still specks of dust and so on on the flowers – all shots were taken out in the field, right where the plant was growing, under natural light, so each image will have a different ‘feel’ to others.

I do like this one the best, it looks cool, like it was a cloudy, cold day when you took it … (don’t tell me you took it in the Brisbane summer heat and spoil it for me!)

Hayley, the picture was taken on a sunny day, but late in the afternoon. It was getting a bit dull so most of the other pictures I took around the same time had to much movement in them (what I get for leaving my tripod at home). It was taken here in Tas, not Brisbane, so don’t despair!

Also, funny you mention this is your favourite – this is usually the first picture of mine that people are drawn to – any ideas why?

I have just bought a framed pic of this with my winning RedBubble voucher for my short story ‘Empty’. I shortlisted all my favourites and spent ages trying to decide which one I wanted most but I kept coming back to this one. I can’t wait until it arrives at my house and brightens up my very white walls!!!

Hey Mimi, thanks for the kind words. No special lens at all. I only have a Canon S3IS, so nothing special has been used. The photo is just as the flower was in real life :)

You have some great flower macros! And the NATURAL colors, I love it! Did you use custom settings on your camera, or just out-of-the-box defaults? Keep up the beautiful work :)

Cheers Kiwi. I used manual settings (albeit they are limited) for this photo. No tripod either, just one hand holding the flower still, the other holding the camera. Natural light, too. Some of the other flower macro shots are actually using the ‘auto’ settings – but don’t generally get the result I am looking for.

This is a lovely shot. The blues are beautiful. We don’t get a lot of blue flowers here in QLD it’s too hot. Wonderful work indeed!

i love hydrangeas and what i love about this is that you’ve captured that almost unnatural color they can have especially the blue purple ones. There’s no paint in my palette that can make that color!
