Dating from the 6th-9th centuries CE, the Bezeklik caves stand high on the cliffs. of west Mutou Valley under the Flaming Mountain, 45 km east of Turpan in Xinjiang Province. They are a collection of retreats once inhabited by Buddhist monks.
