This is part of an ongoing series from The Shetland Islands.
.
I took this to show the texture and workmanship of just one of the many island boats around Mainland in the Shetland Island Group…. and was located in the Harbour outside the Lerwick Museum…
Mainly “Clinker” built, these type of hulls have been passed down to us through history by the Norse Vikings, who made this type of boat building an art form… And because of that, they changed seafaring history forever….

Taken with a Lumix G2 using a 14 – 43mm Four Thirds lens with just a touch of HDR ( x2 ). and post op done on Picasa 3

I really do like this Larry – great POV ! Oiled or varnished wood is so attractive don’t you think ?

  • This was so sleek… But being hand made, it would have cost a fortune…
And I just love the finish…

What a beautiful boat, Larry. When I lived in Nanaimo I had one very like this, a Swedish-built, 22 foot cruiser, mahogany over oak.

  • I’m jealous……I wish that i could own something like that,,,,
    Sounds wonderful…
