The other day, we went up in the new Southern Star Wheel with some friends, and this was the result. I felt that I should do something a bit different, as the markets will soon be flooded with everyday images of this great attraction. Located in the Docklands of Melbourne, it’s different, but nothing like The London Eye of The Singapore Flyer. They are established, where this has just been born.
wow Larry nice view I can hardly wait does it stop long enough to take shots ? Having not been on either of the other two I will be thinking this is flippen fantastic I bet
Hi Christine.. You would love it. It rotates at a very slow snail pace. And it takes about 40 minutes to do a complete cycle. You have all the time in the world to walk around inside the bubble taking shots from different angles. ( you can set up a tripod if there isn’t to many people on board.) But be prepared for dirty glass. Melbourne has got dirty air, and it shows as droplets on the outside of the glass. So when you get home, you need to do some post work on PS. But other than that, it’s great.
WoW, what a view, looks like quite a ride ;) xoxox
Us owls and eagles with our clipped wings don’t get to be up this high very often, so I jump at every chance I get. My heart is up there, but I weigh to much for lift-off… ( he he )
hehe we only get up this high in our dreams (big smile) .. great shot Larry! (big smile) sounds like you had a great time (big smile)
Thanks owl. It was a lot of fun, and something new.

I get scared just looking at this photo and I climbed the Eiffel Tower when I was 20…….lol. Great photo! I suppose every major city should have one of these!! :-)
London. Singapore. Melbourne. Where’s it gonna end. ???? If they make it a cheep ride when they build one on the moon, then I might go and check that one out as well…( he he )
Mmm, may have to make time for this whilst I’m on holiday – but I do so hate heights & ferris wheels used to scare me silly – the things we do for our art!
It is worth it. Once in the bubble, you won’t even notice you are moving.
Great shot Larry – I remember you telling me this was the shot you wanted to get. I like the post processing effect too. Thanks to you and Dawn for inviting us along.
The question was….. What do I do with two big black blotches ???? Answer…. Send my camera off to get stripped and repaired. So what you see in this image was another alternative to a cover up.
Must take a ride on that thing when i can afford to take my boys on it with me – they’d never forgive me otherwise …. the sky is very David Hockney.
Thanks mate…Just something a bit different. And it was worth the trip into the city. We did the Aquarium as well, but I am saving that for next week’s uploads.
Went on it too last week (too far away from the city though :) ) – nice shot.
You are spot on, mate. Location Location Location. It would have been better if they had have built in Batman Avenue beside the Yarra. But not in Docklands….Grrrrrrrrrr

Terrific, I will forward to seeing this the next time I am in Melbourne. Love the background.
Thanks Kala….
It costs $29:50 for the 40 minutes, and if you haven’t been on the others, then it’s worth it.
