This image was taken from Meads Wall on Mt.Ruapehu in the Tongariro National Park of New Zealands North Island. This scene, from this exact spot, was the scene used for Mt.Doom in Mordar, for the film “Lord of the Rings”. This location is in the National Park on the North Island of New Zealand. Sadly, I waited for 45 minutes for the cloud to lift so you could see the mountain in the distance, but this was the best on the day. After I took this, the cloud really settled in, and you couldn’t see anything.

I’ve wanted to make (yeah right!) a Lord of the Rings film since about I first read the book. While the Jackson attempt was far better than the cartoon cr*p I once saw, I was very disappointed that so many liberties were taken with the book.
BUT it was still good, and one thing was perfect. The location.
I have never BEEN to NZ but would love to. However, from the photos I’ve seen, from the way people talk about it, I always knew that if I was a famous (stop laughing) film director, the place I’d film my Lord of the Rings would be in New Zealand.
One day I’ll get there…..
Excellent image. Makes me homesick (even though it IS fiction!)
I also didn’t like some of the wya things were changed around. Especially the ending. Sauraman was killed off to early and not at the end, when he made slaves of all the Hobbits, and the Orcs burned the shire.

Great capture and scenery although I’m not a LOTR’s watcher, lol.
The Castle may be different in style from Scottish Castles but the landscape is just as dramatic and beautiful. Good shot laddie Larry ;-]]
