Memories of the Endeavour
This is just one in a collection of images of the “Endeavour” that I have resurrected from my shoebox.
Back in 1993 I was on a boat greeting the “Endeavour” as she came through the heads of Port Phillip Bay here in Melbourne.
I took these of her stern as we were mobbed by every ship and boat in the bay….....

This image was scanned after being taken with a Pentax Spotmatic 35mm, then hdr x2 images.

A stunning shot
exceptional with the other sailed vessels in the back ground!
Great painter’s effect!
Chookas! ♥
Larry Davis replied
A bit of blemish, but it’s still good.
adgray
I don’t notice a blemish – perhaps the grey patch to the side which I took to be darkening clouds of either an approaching rain storm or a passing one!
all good to me!
Chookas! ♥
Larry Davis replied
In actual fact, they are darker greying of the clouds. But I might see if I can correct it…?
mrscarlotta

You can’t go past the old Pentax Spotmatic.
I used to do Freelance with “Powerboat” Magazine, and I took it everywhere.

Larry Davis replied

Larry Davis replied
Thanks mate.
I decided to bring out a few from the cobwebs in the shoebox..
I have literally hundreds like this one, but they all have to be scanned and cleaned, as they are all 35mm.
Kevin Kroeker
Larry, these are incredible images. These images of the Endeavor raise the bar for the rest of us. You have done some fine work here my friend!!!!
Larry Davis replied
Well I have only worked with what you told me, and developed on it.
So if you think they are that good, then you were my teacher.
This is a real compliment, coming from you.
I only hope I get better enough, so-as people may know that my images are good enough… ( well, as good as yours )
Thanks my friend, for putting me on the right path.
I appreciate it.
( still 4 or 5 more to come in this series )
skyhorse
awesome work Larry, and boy I wish i’d been out on the bay with you that day, what a vision to get those tall ships together
Larry Davis replied
Thanks mate.
I will never stop getting a high from being on water.
I have been in love with sail ever since I was a kid making model ships.
I feel towards sailing ships the same way that you feel towards horses….....
Anthony Hedger
I know what you mean Larry I am the same, I have shed loads of negs and slides to scan in so one day it will give me something to do when I am old and grey, damn it that’s now. LOL
Larry Davis replied
Ha Ha… Thanks.
And at 62 I still have my dark hair and pony tail.
No greys.
No balding patches….. Yet.
Anthony Hedger
LOL It must be the great summers you have over there?
Larry Davis replied
It’s been one long summer for the past 11 years.
I want it to stop.
This drought is driving everyone crazy.

Mike Oxley
Great shot, Larry. The treatment really does give this image a “painterly” effect. Very nicely done.
Larry Davis replied
Thanks Mike….
I appreciate it.
Kasia-D
Another great one – shame you don’t have 12 or you could make an amazing calendar!
Larry Davis replied
I have hundreds like this, but it’s a matter of making time to scan them and touch them up.
Come back in a couple of years …. he he.
And soon I will have hundreds to organise once I get back from the USA trip. ( not enough hours in the day )
Keith Richardson
Congrats on this great shot Larry – stirs the heart!
Keith
Larry Davis replied
Thanks so much Keith.
It nearly didn’t make it, as I had to scan it and do a touch up.
35mm end up small, and you can’t do much with them.
I have heaps from over the years, but no time to do them.
Linda Jackson
What a wonderful picture Larry! take care, Linda
Larry Davis replied
Hello Linda.
It’s always good to hear from you.
And you take care yourself.

The Endeavour was in the Netherlands in 2004 and was moored in front of my house for 10 days, it’s a great ship or should I say bark.
Great to see the Endeavour again in one of your pictures :))
Larry Davis replied
Thanks. I’m glad you appreciate it.
The type is spelt Barque.
Bark is what a dog says…. Woof. ( he he )
Els Steutel
Barque = Bark in Dutch…lol…<—-Double Dutch hehe
