6-3-13. Bradford, MA., USA. Camera: Nikon D5000. Lens: Nikkor 70-300mm. Monday morning I looked outside and saw a snapping turtle, covered with mulch, on my front lawn. She had spent the night buried in one of my new perennial beds. I tried spraying her with a hose to make her leave, but to no avail. I took a long, narrow piece of plywood and tried to somewhat gently pry her onto her back, then I put her on a larger piece of plywood and skidded her off into the woods. Job well done! . . . Except within an hour she was back. I tried 3 or 4 times throughout the day trying to mover her farther and farther from the house, but each time she found her way back. Finally I used a flat shovel to load her into a wheelbarrow and wheeled her about a half mile away into a swamp by Chadwick Pond. Hopefully that will be the end of that! I was able to get some amazingly detailed photos which I’ll post over the course of the next week or so!
