Acrylic painting of red cardinal and berries in winter woods, on stretched cotton canvas, 9 × 12 inches. I like the grumpy look that cardinals have, which is emphasized by their black mask. For collaboration workshop in the group Solo Exhibition in which artists did an interpretation of a photographer’s work, with permission of the photographer. Vonnie’s photo and my painting are first seen on page 5 of the forum thread on this project

The original art is in a modern floater frame that accentuates the silvery tones of the winter sky.

This is a really cool interpretation. Love the tones you’ve added to the trees and lower portion of the sky… and your placement of the berries frames him so perfectly with identical tones…
But what sets this totally apart from any cardinal image I’ve ever seen (and there’ve been more than just a few) is your trademark attitude with which you’ve given this guy such unmistakable personality and charcater.
Congratulations Cindy, you’ve done an amazing job!!
(still think he should lay off the coffee…:-)

  • Thank you billyboy, glad you like the finished work!

I love the warm glow below him (maybe fired up by his awesome color), and the cool silver-blue beyond him. His abode is so awake with these snow sparkled berries on branches you’ve as surely brought to life as you have his character. Your composition, depth, and character don’t let us down. Superb, Cindy!! Congrats to you and Vonnie both for your birth in SoJie 12!

  • Thank you so much, Fran, looking forward to the show, and to catching up on everyone’s WIPs and finished works!
