This artwork was done as a commission for someone who liked my first Giant Coffee Drinking Chicken painting, but was looking for smaller art. This one is 20 × 16 inches. The first one was 60 × 48 inches, (hence the “giant”). Acrylic palette knife painting on cradled wood panel.
It’s hard to categorize my style. Some feel it is surrealism but it’s not quite, not all the time anyway. Perhaps the concepts are surrealistic but there is little in some of them that’s stylistically what most people think of as surreal, and yet it’s not a cartoon either. So, it is hard for me to explain verbally what my genre is but I usually tell people, “Well, it’s kind of humorous surrealism, sometimes dark humor, sometimes just absurd.” These chicken paintings are a good example of works I can’t quite categorize. Some of my tighter style, more planned, work is closer to actual surrealism, like the Hen Madonna below.
Regardless whether I’m working large, small, detailed or with a palette knife, in paint or in monochromatic drawing materials, there is an underlying current of creatures, expressions, whimsy, and weirdness.

Luv it!! I think this could be your “blue dog”!!
Thanks, it might be, LOL! That’s so familiar, (blue dog), but I can’t place it. I had a teacher in college who was always doing blue dogs and was locally somewhat famous for it. Linderman? But he wasn’t the only one doing them. I’m amazed at the amount of chicken art and photography on the web.

Did you see that the google logo today is by Murakami? I recognized it immediately….nothing new, just the same old same old…
Thanks for your comment and the heads up about Murakami, LOL! I just looked and saw it.

I figure they must have something to get going at 5am; this explains it. Do love your chickens Cindy. I’m rather fond of these and have a few feathery friends in my backyard. Now, I really must go check my coffee supplies. :)
LOL, thanks! Wish I could have chickens again, but maybe someday.
