Summer and Fall Shows

This is a good kind of busy! I have shows lined up for June, August, Sept, and October. All the shows are in Arizona.

JUNE

Details about the June show at {9} The Gallery are on my blog The group show is titled Gods & Monsters. It promises to be a lot of fun!

AUGUST

I have not yet blogged about the August show, which will be at Westgate in Glendale, AZ. The month was just set, and so far that’s about all I know! Details to come in my blog when confirmed. I’ll be doing this with another local artist, Christy Puetz who makes fantastic beaded animals. There may be a third artist as well. I expect to have several pieces in this show which is animal themed.

SEPTEMBER

This September, I have a 2 person show, with 92 year old musical composer and painter Carlos Rausch, at Olney Gal…

Upcoming Shows, 2016

Though it’s not written in stone, (subject to a gallery changing dates of things for some reason), I will be showing at Olney Gallery in Phoenix AZ in Sept, and {9} The Gallery, also in Phoenix, in Oct. Both will be ‘big’ shows, one a 2 person show, the other most likely a solo show. In between now and then I’m doing group shows that I have time for. One for sure is the Mutant Pinata show in Phoenix, (Chartreuse Gallery), in March. There are others that I feel I’d be nuts not to participate in, one about monsters for example.

You can see up to date posts about shows and events I’m taking part in on my Wordpress Blog

Because of the two shows being a few months off, I want to keep most of my work off the internet so it’ll be ‘fresh’ when…

December and January Shows

At Firehouse Gallery, 1015 N. 1st St, Phoenix, AZ, opens Fri, Dec. 18, 6pm https://www.facebook.com/firehousephoenix

“I Am Not A Toy!”
Mixed media soft sculpture
Approx. 9 in. high by 15 in. wide at widest tentacle tip to tentacle tip

This sewn fabric creature was actually started some years ago, along with a few others. They got boxed during one of our moves, and I just recently uncovered them again. There was a toy themed art show coming up, and I knew I didn’t really have time to start anything from scratch, so I finished one of the creatures. The eye is glass, possibly made for use in mannequins as it’s quite realistic. After sewing I stained it a little then sanded it lightly to give it a nice soft feel. The circular marks, lips etc, are painted on. The others,…

MAGAZINE FEATURE

Recently, I had the honor of being featured in Phoenix Magazine I had a very enjoyable interview with reporter Niki D’Andrea and photographer Angelina Aragon. (Is that a cool name or what?) The issue came out just in time to mention a show I have work in, in December, at {9} The Gallery. This is also a great chance to talk about watermarks, because I’d had some serious infringement problems and some were coming from non-watermarked images in media coverage of art shows. Every artist wants coverage, but not every artist wants to chase down companies using their art as ads without asking or paying. Especially when those co’s are ones the artist would object to and never agree to license their work to. Anyway, I thank Phoenix Magazine for granting my wish…

The "Arizona 45" Art Show

I’m proud to be one of the AZ 45 selected by the Tieken Gallery to show in Nov. 2015! The public, closing reception is Sunday, Nov 29, 2-5 pm, and the gallery will make appointments for private viewing, too.

When Fred Tieken asked me to be part of this show, I was honored, and knew that the venue was good for a larger piece. Because they had so many artists there was an upper limit for width. I had a large canvas that fit the requirements, so took it outside on the patio and did a palette knife painting. I think this was inspired by the fact my husband and I both like “dirty martinis,” (includes some olive juice from the jar). When they’re not dirty all I can taste is juniper and it’s like drinking a Christmas tree. Much prefer olives! The painting, below, i…

November and December Shows

Will update with pictures closer to the openings, but just wanted to put it on your radar if you’re in the Phoenix area, that I’m showing in at least 2 events coming up. A couple of others are in the planning stages.

Tieken Gallery
5202 E Gold Dust Avenue
Paradise Valley, AZ

I have one large palette knife painting of a chicken in this show! It’s a new one, and not yet posted online.

December 2015

{9} The Gallery
1229 Grand Ave
Phoenix, AZ

A ‘cash and carry’ show of affordable, small artworks, multiple artists. I will have at least 5 pieces in this show. Any unsold pieces will probably remain in the gallery thru Dec.

Showing again at {9} The Gallery, for one night event

_Updated 10 Aug 2015, sold a few pieces and marked those sold if they were in my portfolio here, and removed them from my currently available inventory list on my blog. Thank you, buyers!

This Friday, I’ll be taking a number of small paintings to a one night show at {9} The Gallery. This is a group show, including Kyllan Maney, Brenda Edwards, Aileen Frick, Geoffrey Gersten Eric Babcock and more.

This is a studio sale, and I’m taking pieces that are from as far back as 2010, and as recent as this year, most of which have never been out of the house, but tucked away somewhere taking up space! All are ready to hang, many are in frames and if they’re not they have deep edges. Most are paintings, but there will be a few drawings, too. Sizes range from around 6 × 6 inc…

June 19 show, She Deck, women artists

“Off Road,” Acrylic on used skateboard deck, 32 × 8 inches.

My painting will be at She Deck, the all women artist show held by The Gallery opening June 19! All of the pieces will be on skate decks, and will be $300.

The show location is at the Frontal Lobe gallery space:

1301 Grand Ave, Phoenix, AZ

This is just North of owner Laura Dragon’s and {9}’s usual space. Frontal Lobe is in the old Bragg’s Pie Factory Building and there will be three shows going on between {9}The Gallery and Beatrice Moore’s space, Frontal Lobe that night, lots of art to see within very short walking distance! A few years ago, I showed in the Bragg’s building, before the restaurant occupied the actual ‘pie factory’ spot and before Frontal Lobe was called…

He left a large and silent void

This winter was a tough one for us, our little family of two humans and a small flock of birds, (4 birds are now 2). We found out in Dec last year that one of our beloved cockatiels had arthritis, then it went downhill from there. He also had cancer. About the same time this ton of bricks was dropped on us, our budgie died. Feels like we practically lived at the vet’s office these past 4 months, with so many tests and treatments. Still waiting for some final test results. So far none of the scary, contagious avian diseases seem to be the issue, and there didn’t seem to be any correlation between the deaths. Just a horrible coincidence, probably the odds of which increased because our birds are older. I blogged about it HERE

During this time, I had art in two shows but my mind …
