UPDATE 17 Mar. 2014, now you can read more about it and I’m named in this article: http://www.broadwayworld.com/phoenix/article/Tu...#
Last week, I was contacted by the Executive Director of the Arizona Commission on the Arts. He asked me to submit some bird art images that same day, a potential sale being possible. I did, and very shortly, was informed one of my paintings was purchased by them, a Governors Arts Awards Purchase How cool is that?! The painting they purchased is Birds in Wigs. More about it when I learn more; there is an event attached to it, in March.
That very same day, at the very moment I was talking to the director on the phone, an expected visitor arrived, a gallery owner who wanted to see my studio. I knew this meant a possible show so was very excited about this, too. That went well, and it looks like I’ll probably be having a show of bird art later this year, probably a 2 person show. Again, I’ll post more when I learn details.
I had just made some other good sales recently, too, so it was like Christmas. Perhaps it was delayed Christmas. We DID have to move over the holidays. Happy to say so far we like our new home and it’s great having a studio.
I was kind of still feeling the euphoria from all that, when my husband and I went to the Desert Botanical Gardens on Valentine’s Day, where I took LOTS of photos close up of plants, to use as reference for future paintings. There are so many kinds of agaves, cacti, etc, all wonderful shapes and colors. Though they take a longer time to paint, I like doing larger detailed desert landscapes, using bits and pieces of different plants to make up my own.
I’d have posted about this sooner but the flu hit us at the end of our garden-visit, like some twisted ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ joke. I still haven’t looked at all my desert plant photos or done anything with them. March, and what’s left of Feb., will be spent cutting mats, framing what needs to be framed, and painting more birds!
UPDATE: I will be having a bird art show in April at R. Pela Contemporary Art in Phoenix! The other artist showing will be Scott Wolf. When the gallery announces the show I’ll post a separate Journal with all the details!
Details to come!
