Crystal Aurora
A series of images of microscopic crystal formations viewed using polarized light and captured by photomicrography.
Chemical compounds, ranging from the everyday to the exotic, are crystallized on to glass slides.
The crystal patterns are viewed using a microscope fitted with Polaroid filters at magnifications 25 to 250 times actual size.
The normally colorless crystals produce vibrant kaleidoscopic images embracing the entire color spectrum as a palette.
Hours may be spent searching for a composition of color and shape that attracts the eye of the photographer.
The resulting images evoke emotional responses unique to each observer.
