Artist's Description

This image is of SR Bulleid West Country Pacific Locomotive No 34007 ‘Wadebridge’ and I took the photograph, on the 22 October 2011, as it started to pull away under load from Loughborough Railway Station. ‘Wadebridge’ was designed by Sir Oliver Bulleid, Chief Mechanical Engineer for the Southern Railway, and was built at Brighton, England in 1945 as one of the first batch of “West Country” class 4-6-2 mixed traffic locomotives, a smaller version of his “Merchant Navy” express passenger locomotive. Wadebridge is the oldest surviving “West Country” class locomotive.
