The 51st State
just me saying it how I experience it … ‘tis all … [shrug]
This is the land with plenty to take-away,
where you can eat as much as you like,
as long as you can pay.
This is the land where you’re encouraged to indulge,
while you blob-around feeding your face,
and expanding your bulge.
This is the land of the many “beached whales”;
of the oversized gut and the many sales of all sales.
So have another Coke and a pizza to go,
and why have a kitchen at all at home?
This is the land of the one-stop shopping malls;
made just for you so they can sell it all.
This is the land some call the 51st State.
So watch what you say, this is the US of A,
no doubt, make no mistake.
Where apathy lies inside of your Hungry Jacks,
and in your fast foods, fast life and take-away snacks.
For this is the land where you are encouraged to indulge,
to buy Nike, Levi and baseball hats that shade your back.
Where Visa and Mastercard compel you to spend, spend, spend.
For this is the land of the beer-belly and the long week-end.
So don’t bother to step-up to the front of the queue,
if you’ve no AAA credit rating, mortgage or trendy bank loan.
You’re nobody without the latest mobile phone.
You can buy all you want, but not what you need,
as you rush on to feed your self-indulgent greed.
So keep-up your debt because you’ve been told to have it all.
As you take another shopping spree at your local mall.
Keep feeding your face ‘til you destroy your health;
and skull your fill down at the local tavern and grill.
‘Til your gut starts to swell, and you bloat and are full,
with more grog and finger-lickin’ dips and meat pies.
Spend-up and drink-on, eat everything about,
it’s all yours friend with your seedy, greedy eyes.
But stay ignorant of who’s pulling the strings.
Oh by the way big spender, don’t muckabout,
get another round, because it’s your shout.
We’ve been bought and sold, in the age of the great indulge.
And more’s the pity and more’s the shame;
and I ponder the how and the why? Who invented this game?

hell! You have said it all so well…...
“But stay ignorant of who’s pulling the strings” that is so true! I felt sick at the reminder of this society and its overindulgence, totally blind, like fat lambs gorging oblivious to the date of their slaughter…... I already feel I know what is coming and it frightens me…..
“So who invented this game?” I would love to meet them face to face….as I ask the same question and wonder if they have children or if they even care…..Powerful words Crowmanic!!!

and what an ironic title….. hope it wakes a few more people up from their complacency…..
